Importance of This Puja in the Shatru Nashak Kalashtami Mahamuhurat
Kalashtami is dedicated to Lord Kaal Bhairav, the most fierce and protective form of Lord Shiv. This Muhurat is also considered very fruitful for the sadhana of the Das Mahavidyas. It is believed that sadhana done on this special tithi and Muhurat destroys enemies, fear, tantra-badha and negative powers. On the Shatru Nashak Kalashtami tithi, getting Maa Baglamukhi, Lord Kaal Bhairav and Sankat Mochan Hanuman worshipped together ends all the troubles of the devotee, and through the combined grace of the three Shaktis, an unbreakable protective kavach is created around the family.

In the scriptures, Maa Baglamukhi is called the 8th power of the Das Mahavidyas, “Brahmastra-roopini.” According to legend, when the demon Madanasur received a boon from Brahma Ji that every word he spoke would come true, he caused destruction with his vak-siddhi. He would burn sages and kings to ash just by speaking. Then, at the call of the Devtas, Maa Pitambara Baglamukhi appeared, and just as Madanasur opened his mouth to attack the Devi, Maa Baglamukhi pulled out his tongue, did the “stambhan” (paralysis) of his power, and ended him with her mace. This same stambhan miracle of the Mata still ties down the tongue and evil thinking of enemies, court cases and opponents today.
Lord Kaal Bhairav is the fifth and one of the most fierce Rudra avatars of Lord Shiv. He is considered the controller of Kaal and the movement of the Grahs, destroyer of fear and the supreme Dandnayak (enforcer of justice) of the universe. According to legend, when the movement of the nine Grahs went wrong in the universe and the cruel effect of Rahu-Ketu grew, terror of the evil eye, ghosts and spirits, and terrible tantra-badha spread everywhere. Suffering from this, the Devtas went to Lord Shiv for shelter. On Mahadev’s command, to destroy the troubles, Lord Kaal Bhairav, the fierce form of Lord Shiv, appeared, and with just one roar of his, all negative powers and pret-badha ran away. Seeing Kaal Bhairav’s fierce speed, all the Navagrahs, including Shani Dev, surrendered at his feet and gave their word that any devotee who comes to Baba Bhairav’s shelter will be freed from Grah dosh and the evil eye forever.
Sankat Mochan Hanuman is also the 11th Rudra avatar of Lord Shiv and the remover of all troubles. Even in removing the troubles of Lord Shri Hari Vishnu’s Ram avatar, Mahavir Hanuman was always at the front. Whether it was finding Mata Sita or saving brother Lakshman’s life, Bajrang Bali removed all of Prabhu Shri Ram’s troubles. It is believed that worship of Hanuman Ji removes all troubles.

“नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा, जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा”

Meaning: A person who constantly remembers the name of Hanuman Ji is quickly freed from all illness, sorrow, the obstacles of ghosts and spirits, and mental stress.

The Divine History of the Maa Baglamukhi and Kaal Bhairav Temples
The Maa Baglamukhi Temple at Bhakhali (Pandoh), on the bank of the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh, is a very ancient Pitambara Peeth. According to legend, during their period of hiding, the Pandavas stayed at this holy place and did severe sadhana of Maa Baglamukhi, and received the boon of victory over the Kauravas’ terrible conspiracies.
The Kaal Bhairav Temple in Kashi, the city of Mahadev, has been the main center of tantra, mantra and Grah shanti since ancient times. Lord Kaal Bhairav is considered the controller of Kaal and the movement of the Grahs, the destroyer of fear and the supreme Dandadhikari (enforcer of justice). It is believed that no anushthan done in his holy Dham goes in vain.
