Importance of This Puja on Tuesday at the Birthplace of Mangal Dev
In Vedic Jyotish, Lord Mangal Dev, the commander of the Grahs, is considered the lord of Tuesday. It is believed that when Mangal Dev, who is of a very fierce nature, is worshipped on the day he rules, even the most severe Manglik Dosh is calmed. It is said that when a special Bhaat Pujan of Mangal Dev (shringar/abhishek with cooked, cooled rice) is done in his birthplace, Mangal Dev becomes calm and removes all his fierce effects from the devotee’s kundli.

Glory of the Mangalnath Temple and Mangal Dev
According to the legend of the “Avanti Khand” of the Skand Puran, in ancient times a demon named Andhakasur, after receiving a boon from Shiv Ji, caused an uproar in all three worlds. When Andhakasur’s cruelty grew very much, Lord Shiv himself fought him. During the battle, a drop of sweat from Mahadev’s body fell on this holy land of Ujjain. From that drop, a divine child with a red complexion was born from the womb of Mother Earth and named “Mangal Dev.”
As soon as Mangal Dev was born, he drank the blood of Andhakasur, after which Lord Shiv killed the demon. Since Mangal Dev was born from Mahadev’s tej and the womb of the Earth, he is also called “Bhaum.” This place in Ujjain is the only place of appearance of Mangal Dev in the whole universe. Here Mangal Dev sits in person in the form of a Shivling. It is believed that Bhaat Puja here calms the Ugrata of Mangal Dev, and devotees receive freedom from Manglik Dosh.
