The day of Kartik Krishna Trayodashi (Dhanteras) is considered in Sanatan Dharma the day that opens the doors of prosperity. On this very day, Lord Dhanvantari appeared from the Samudra Manthan with the amrit kalash, along with Mahalaxmi, and on this very day Dhanpati Kuber received the position of treasurer of the Devtas. When Dhanteras comes together with the holy coincidence of Friday (Maa Laxmi’s favorite day), a havan done on the Siddh land of the Gajlaxmi Temple is said to uproot poverty from the root.

सम्पत्कराणि सकलेन्द्रियनन्दनानि, साम्राज्यदानविभवानि सरोरुहाक्षि।

त्वद्वन्दनानि दुरितोद्धरणोद्यतानि, मामेव मातरनिशं कलयन्तु मान्ये॥

Meaning: O Maa Laxmi with lotus-like eyes! Your worship and prayer gives all wealth, gives joy to all the senses, and has the power to grant even the biggest empire and splendor. This worship removes all sins and financial troubles at once.

According to mythology, It is believed that when Adi Shankaracharya asked for alms at the house of a poor, sorrowful woman, she showed her inability to give anything and offered him only a dry amla. Then, to please Maa Laxmi, Shankaracharya at once composed this divine stotra, because of which golden (kanak) amlas rained at that woman’s house.
