Importance of This Puja in a Nakshatra Ruled by Rahu Himself
In Jyotish Shastra, Rahu is considered the karak of “confusion” and Ketu of “directionlessness.” When the bad effect of Rahu or Ketu is present in the kundli, a person’s mind does not work properly. The web of illusion of the shadow Grah Rahu spoils the intellect. It is said that when Rahu does not support you, scary dreams come, wrong decisions cause losses, and a state of confusion stays. Obstacles come in work that is going well, depression can happen, and one can suddenly suffer financial loss and also get buried under the burden of debt. In Vedic Jyotish, the lords of the Swati, Shatabhisha and Ardra nakshatras are Rahu Dev himself, the shadow Grah. Since 8 November is Rahu’s Swati nakshatra, this puja on this tithi is considered very beneficial. It is said that when pujan is done in a nakshatra ruled by Rahu, Rahu’s fierce and confusion-creating nature is calmed at once. In this Mahamuhurat, Rahu-Ketu Shanti pujan calms the bad effects of Ketu along with Rahu, and gives freedom from mental confusion. Shiv Rudrabhishek cuts through this web of illusion of Rahu, which gives the person mental clarity and brings a remarkable improvement in their decision-making ability.

Importance of Shiv Rudrabhishek
Lord Shiv is the master of all Grahs. Pleased by the penance of the severed head of the demon Svarbhanu, who drank the nectar, Bholenath himself gave him the blessing of becoming a Chhaya Grah. If Rahu pujan and Mahadev’s Rudrabhishek are done with the wish for Rahu shanti, the devotee surely gets relief from Rahu’s troubles, and by Lord Shiv’s blessing, stability, success and inner peace arrive in life.
This Anushthan is special at Rahu Paithani
Rahu Paithani in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand is the temple about which it is believed that the severed head of Svarbhanu, that is Rahu, fell here after being cut by the Sudarshan Chakra. Here Rahu did tapasya, pleased Lord Shiv and received the blessing of becoming a Chhaya Grah. In this very temple, Mahadev also gave Rahu the blessing of dwelling in a Shivling.
Because of this, intense Rahu energy is present here. It is believed that puja of Rahu and Lord Shiv at this place gives freedom from Rahu-related doshas.

Rahu is described in the Navgrah Peeda Har Stotra:
“महाशिरो महावक्त्रो दीर्घदंष्ट्रो महाबलः।

अतनुश्चोर्ध्वकेशश्च राहुः शांतिकरोस्तु मे॥”
Meaning: May Rahu Dev, with a huge head, a huge mouth and immense strength, who became calm after taking shelter of Lord Shiv, calm all the troubles and doshas of my life and give me peace.
