The Divine Glory of the Rahu Paithani Temple and Pujan
This Rahu Temple in Paithani village of Uttarakhand is a very ancient and divine Siddh Peeth of India. According to legend, at the time of the Samudra Manthan, when Lord Vishnu in the Mohini form was distributing nectar to the Devtas, a demon named Svarbhanu took the disguise of a Devta and sat between Surya and Chandra Dev, and he also drank the nectar. When Surya and Chandra revealed the secret, Lord Vishnu cut off Svarbhanu’s head from his body with the Sudarshan Chakra. Since Svarbhanu had already drunk the nectar, his head became immortal as “Rahu” and his body as “Ketu.” The head of Rahu Dev, cut by the Sudarshan Chakra, fell on this very holy land of Paithani in Uttarakhand. After the head fell, to repent for his mistake, Rahu Dev did severe tapasya of Lord Shiv at this place. Pleased with his sincere devotion, Mahadev gave him the position of “Chhaya Grah” among the Navgrahs and the boon of being installed here together with him. The jaap and havan done at this tapobhoomi of Rahu Dev himself removes all the fierce effects of Rahu from the devotee’s life and gives peace of mind.
