Importance of Worshipping the Tri-Shakti on Kali Chaudas and Somvati Amavasya

The Chaudas tithi that comes just one day before Diwali in the month of Kartik is called Kali Chaudas. This tithi is considered very important for Shakti sadhana. On Kali Chaudas tithi, Maa Mahakali is especially worshipped. According to religious beliefs, worshipping Maa Kali on this night removes all troubles of life, unknown fear, crises and negative powers (negative energy). Also, in the scriptures, the Amavasya tithi is considered one of the most powerful and important tithis of the year for tantra sadhana, hidden obstacles and the worship of fierce powers. On this day the Sun and the Moon are in the same rashi, which creates a special balance of cosmic energy and mental awareness. According to the scriptures, pujas, yagyas and havans done on this tithi for the fierce forms of Shakti are considered highly fruitful. If Amavasya falls on a Monday, it is called Somvati Amavasya. When it is Somvati Amavasya, this tithi becomes a Mahamuhurat of the grace of Shiv-Shakti.

It is believed that on these two supreme tithis of Shakti sadhana, the combined puja of Maa Kali, Maa Baglamukhi and Maa Pratyangira, the Kavach Path and the Tantrokt Havan end all obstacles in life, and by the grace of the Tri-Shaktis an unbreakable protective shield is created around the family.

Divine Glory of Maa Kali, Maa Baglamukhi and Maa Pratyangira

Maa Kali: In the scriptures, Maa Kali is considered the mistress of Kaal and the original energy of the universe. According to legend, when a powerful asur named Daruk spread terror in all three worlds, the Devtas, afraid of him, fled from heaven and reached Mahadev. The Devtas told Mahadev that Daruk’s terrible tantrik bonds and evil gaze had made them powerless. Seeing the condition of his dear Devtas, at Lord Shiv’s request, Mata Parvati manifested her Mahakali form. Maa Kali’s form was so radiant and fierce that she burned away, in mid-air, all the evil eye and negative power sent by the Asurs. The Mother killed Daruk and gave the Devtas lasting, unbreakable protection.

Maa Baglamukhi: In the scriptures, Maa Baglamukhi is called the 8th power of the Das Mahavidyas, “Brahmastra-roopini.” According to legend, when the demon Madanasur received a boon from Brahma Ji that every word he spoke would come true, he caused destruction with his vak-siddhi. He would burn sages and kings to ash just by speaking. Then, at the call of the Devtas, Maa Pitambara Maa Baglamukhi appeared, and just as Madanasur opened his mouth to attack the Devi, Maa Baglamukhi pulled out his tongue, did the “stambhan” (paralysis) of his power, and ended him with her mace. This same stambhan miracle of the Mata still ties down the tongue and evil thinking of enemies, court cases and opponents today.

Maa Pratyangira: In the scriptures, Maa Pratyangira is considered one of the most intense and fierce powers. According to legend, during the Ramayana war, Meghnad, facing defeat in battle, was about to perform a secret anushthan and the Nikumbhila Yagya of this same Devi. It is believed that if Meghnad had completed this anushthan, it would have become impossible to kill him in battle. That is why, on the advice of Vibhishan Ji, Lakshman Ji did not let Meghnad’s yagya be completed. The glory of Maa Pratyangira is that she not only stops the attack of tantra and plots done by enemies, but turns it back on the attacker with double force.
