Importance of this in the Vaikunth Chaturdashi Mahamuhurat

The Chaturdashi tithi of the Shukla Paksha of the month of Kartik is called “Vaikunth Chaturdashi.” It is the only rare day in the whole year when Lord Shri Hari Vishnu and Devadhidev Shiv meet in person. It is believed that on this day the doors of Vaikunth are open, so an anushthan done in this Muhurat destroys all sins committed knowingly or unknowingly, and after death the soul goes directly to Shri Hari’s supreme Dham “Vaikunth.” It is said that at the holy Dham of Kamleshwar Mahadev, where Lord Hari, absorbed in Shiv’s sadhana, offered his eye to Shiv, deep daan and 1008 lotus flower archana are believed to bring childless couples the blessing of a child, and the blessing of victory by burning all sins to ash. According to legends, Lord Krishna received the blessing of a son named Samb right here.

Why Is the Vaikunth Chaturdashi Tithi Special?
According to Puranic beliefs, from Devshayani Ekadashi in the month of Ashadh, Lord Vishnu goes into Yog Nidra for four months. During this time, Devadhidev Mahadev takes on the whole responsibility of running the universe and creation. On Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, that is Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Shri Hari Vishnu wakes from his four-month sleep. Exactly three days after this, on the Chaturdashi tithi, he comes to Shiv Lok to meet Lord Shiv. On this day Mahadev hands the responsibility of running creation back to Lord Vishnu. That is why it is called the “transfer of the power of the world” and the day of “Hari-Har Milan.”

According to the Purans, when the tyranny of the daityas grew, all the Devtas went to Lord Vishnu for help. To destroy the Danavs, a divine and invincible weapon was needed, for which Shri Hari Vishnu decided to worship Mahadev. Lord Vishnu took a sankalp to recite the thousand names of Lord Shiv (Shiv Sahasranama) and offer one lotus flower with each name. Lord Vishnu, with full devotion, kept saying each name of Shiv Ji and offering one lotus flower at a time on the Shivling. To test Shri Hari’s devotion, Lord Shiv, by maya, made one lotus flower among those flowers invisible (missing). When, at the end of the puja, one flower was short, to fulfill his sankalp, Lord Vishnu, who is called “Kamalnayan” (lotus-eyed), without any hesitation took out one of his eyes and offered it to Shiv Ji. Very pleased with this single-minded and supreme devotion of Vishnu Ji, Mahadev appeared, restored Vishnu Ji’s eye, and gave him the Sudarshan Chakra as a gift. Because Vishnu Ji had offered his lotus-like eye to Lord Shiv, one name of Mahadev became “Kamleshwar” (lord of the lotus). It is believed that a childless couple was also present, watching this whole puja very attentively. Seeing Lord Vishnu’s single-minded devotion and the divine sight of Shiv appearing in person, that childless couple also did tapasya of Mahadev with full faith at this very place. Pleased with the couple’s sadhana, Mahadev gave them the boon of a child.
